*This is one of
the most looked-forward-to times in Henry Co. The Harvest
Showcase is Saturday, and the Chamber will again have its good
old-fashioned country breakfast. We look forward to seeing
everyone eating Henry Co. cured country ham from J.T. Stinson
and friends, eggs from Blueberry Hill Farm, biscuits and gravy
from Scriber’s Station on Elm and homegrown tomatoes from Jason
Scriber’s garden. Jason and his great cooks will be serving from
about 7:30 A.M. until the food is gone in the kitchen area of
the fairgrounds. Breakfast is $7.00 and includes your choice of
coffee, OJ or water. You may buy drinks separately if you want
more than one for $1.00 each. We certainly hope you will come
enjoy the events of the day including lots of beautiful
arts/craft booths, farm produce, and lunch at the Farmers’
Market. Antique tractors, petting barn, games for kids, corn
hole, music by Music ‘N a Box with Patrick Henry Hughes, and
Unfinished Band along with a husband calling contest, largest
watermelon, and antique tractor pull. This is eleven years for
the Harvest Showcase, and it gets better every year. Free
admission!

*Carroll County
Chamber asked that I include a link to a survey they are doing
to see how they can attract people who travel to Madison,
Indiana when the bridge closes. I know they would appreciate
your input.

My computer said to hit control and click. I hope it will work
for you.
*We still have
several openings to work the state fair this year. If you want
to attend the fair and do not want to pay admission and parking,
this is your opportunity to go at no charge. All you have to do
is work a shift in the Henry Co. booth from either 9-1:30;
1:30-6:00 or 6-10 (or when everyone around you closes their
booth.) Call Pat at 845-0806 to sign up. The fair runs from Aug.
19-29. We really do need you. After (or before) your shift you
can enjoy the fair. We are in the South Wing with all the art,
quilts, lots of promotions, and you have an opportunity to see
what other counties are doing.
*Henry County
will be represented at the WEG (World Equestrian Games) in an
unusual way. We have been requested to bring a gallon of water
from the KY River to be mingled with the waters of the state’s
rivers in a ceremony during the Games. Also Jesse, Maryellen
Garrison, Beverly Potter and I will be working the KY Experience
on Sept. 30. This should be quite an experience for us as well.
*Please do not
forget our
Car Show on August 21. Spectators are FREE, and we will be
doing cakewalks, have good food from KMRT, and with DJ Rick
Johnson playing the Oldies but Goodies, a good time is expected.
Our younger generation will enjoy seeing cars from yesteryear,
and of course, if you have a car to enter for the 60 Awards as
well as specialty trophies (don’t forget tractors and
motorcycles), registration is just $15, the same it has been for
the last 5 years. We hope to see you there.
*Along with the
Henry County Local, the Chamber is working on candidate forums
for the November Elections. More information to follow as we
work out the details. This will be your opportunity to hear what
each candidate has to say about our county, its economy, and
find out their feelings on YOUR concerns.
*Please check
your desk for your due’s bill if you are due in July. This is
our biggest month of billing, as we are on a July-June fiscal
year. This helps us plan the year and lets us know you want to
be a part of promoting pride and progress in Henry Co. Thanks to
all who have sent in their checks. Membership decals for the
2010-2011 year will be sent next month. We truly appreciate you.
Also a big thanks to the sponsors of the awards for the car
show. We certainly could not do these projects without the
support of our members. *Don’t forget to let me know of any news
your business has or any items you would like in the weekly
briefing.
