Don’t forget to support your fellow Chamber members. Without your support, we would have no businesses in our small communities.
CAR SHOW NEWS
Enclosed (or attached to this e-mail) is information on our Chamber Car Show that will be held Aug. 28 at Harry Hill Park. We will give the TOP 60 awards sponsored by you, the members. You receive 2 awards for the price of $35. Your business name will be on the plaques, and you will be advertised in 10 surrounding counties. Car cruises are already starting and we need to get the flyers ready. Please do not delay sending in your reservations for your advertising. We also need Presenting Sponsors at $250, a DJ sponsor, and a rent sponsor. We also need a sponsor for the $100.00 drawing if we have 100 cars registered. The specialty awards are first come, so if you have a favorite, get that sheet (or e-mail Pat) back to the Chamber. Only through your cooperation can we have a successful fundraiser. If you receive this in the mail and want a special award, call the office, as it is first come.
APPRECIATION
Without the generosity of our members, we could not exist. Dues do not cover all the expenses of running the Chamber, and only through fundraisers such as these do we make ends meet. We stick to our budget, but because of the uncertain economy, the numbers do not always add up, as we do have a dues deficiency. Only with events such as this and our Harvest Showcase breakfast do we make ends meet. You will never know how grateful we are to those who help by sponsoring dinners, doorprizes, car show sponsorships, food, and all the many, many things you do. All we can say is THANKS, and we will continue to do all we can to support all of you.
ABOUT OUR MARCH DINNER
We had our Community Awards Dinner in March, and we honored some very deserving people. Citizen of the Year is Michael Duncan; Outstanding Chamber Member is Doug Kalbfleisch; Outstanding Farmer Award was presented to Barbara Gregory; Virgil Price, owner of Eminence DQ, received the Outstanding Business Person Award; and Cooks Pharmacy was named Outstanding Business. Rodney Young received the Emergency Services Personnel honor and Eminence Main Street was recognized with a Business Beautification Award. Outstanding Educator was Liz Dent and Teacher of the Year is Amy Treece. Leadership Henry County Alumni Award went to Dennis Yeary and Goodwill Ambassador is Jesse Wallace. The Outstanding Retired Educator Award was given to Martha Tarry Simpson, and Pat presented the Outstanding Chamber Assistant Award to Beverly Potter. There is much to say about each of these winners, and if you did not get to attend the dinner, you missed a lovely evening. We will be presenting awards again next year, and I hope all of you will consider nominating a worthy person for any or all. If you wish to send them in now, they will be filed for consideration of the awards next March. Send to Box 355, New Castle 40050.
- We will be doing Pride of the Counties again this year, and if you wish to work in the booth, please let us know. Dates are Aug. 19-29. We could not do this event to promote our county without the help of many, many volunteers. Free admission, free parking, and our undying gratitude are all the pay we can offer, but you always have time to enjoy the fair.
- PLEASE get your car show reservations for awards and sponsorships in by April 26. E-mail or snail mail—no invoice until much closer to the show. We really need to get the flyer ready by May 1 as the car shows start then.
- If you plan to go to the Day at the Races on May 14, we do need your reservations STAT. If we need to make more reservations, it must be done right away.
DON’T THROW IT AWAY
In an attempt to hold down costs at the Chamber, many of you receive this information by e-mail and others by snail mail. The thing you need to remember is that there are several additional sheets with the dinner reservations, member application, and directory information included in this briefing. Please print them out if you receive this by e-mail; go ahead and send in those that interest you so they do not become lost in the shuffle. Sometimes we all get paper overload, and this may be the case here. If you do misplace something from the Chamber that you need, call the office and Pat will send out whatever it is you need.
OFFICE DEPOT CAN SAVE YOU MONEY
The Chamber has a working relationship with Office Depot to save you money and give the Chamber some non-dues revenue. You can save money on your office supplies by signing up for this program. Here is the sheet that has to be sent to Becky Kane who will get you signed up. Then she will send you the information and price list on savings.

Chamber Ambassadors
The Board approved our working toward a way to help you get to know other chamber members and also help keep information flowing. We plan to start an Ambassador’s Club under the guidance of board member Lance Minnis. Lance has working with a group of this type in Louisville, and we are adjusting the ideas to fit our smaller organization.
The only requirement to be a Chamber Ambassador is that you be a employee or owner of a business in good standing with the Chamber or be an associate member and want to expand your knowledge of our business community. There are numerous ways to take part in this program. An attachment to the Briefing explains the program. This gives you an opportunity to meet other chamber members, discuss ideas and problems in common, and strengthen both your business and the chamber.
